Taking measurements

We suggest doing the measurements in front of a mirror or getting assistance from a friend to make the process easier. The measurements do not have to be completely accurate, but the more accurate the better. Wearing as little or as thin clothing as possible will improve accuracy. For example, a thin t-shirt will give more accurate results than a thick woolen sweater.

Chest Size

The chest size is measured around the largest part of the chest. For women, this is the overbust. Put the band around your back and read the measurements in front. The tape should lie horizontally and close to the chest without feeling too tight.

Waist size

Measured around the narrowest part of the waist. Usually this will be just above the navel and below the ribs. Stand relaxed, but with a straight back. Breathe normally, do not hold your breath or draw in your stomach. Hold the tape horizontally and measure without it feeling too tight.

Tip: You can try standing up straight and then bending to the side in front of a mirror. Where a fold naturally forms is where you should place the measuring tape.

Hip size

Measured across the widest part of the hip. Guide the band around your buttocks and measure in the front. Make sure the band is horizontal and firm without feeling too tight.

Inseam length

The inner leg length is measured from the intersection between your legs all the way down to the sole of the foot. Stand upright and place the band as high as it will go on the inside of the leg. Then measure down to the floor. This can be difficult to do alone.

Tip: You can try standing 10cm inside the measuring tape, and then stretch the tape up to where your legs intersect. Afterwards, you can subtract 10cm to find the final measurement.

Shoulder to shoulder

Stand straight and relaxed. Place the measuring tape over the shoulders, behind the neck and let it follow the natural curve of the body from one end of the shoulder to the other. The band must end at the transition between the tip of the shoulder and the upper arm bone. The band must not be pulled in a straight line between the shoulder points.

Arm length

Keep your arm down by your side and slightly bent. Place the measuring tape from the tip of the shoulder down to just below the wrist. The band should follow the arm behind the elbow and should not go in a straight line from shoulder to wrist.

Upper thigh

Place the measuring tape horizontally around the widest part of one of your thighs. The tape should not feel too tight.

Leg

Hold the measuring tape horizontally around the widest part of one of your calves. The tape should not feel too tight.
